Modern Abolition FAQ
Sincere efforts will be made to accommodate participant access needs. Each Modern Abolition meeting lasts approximately 90 minutes; the Information Session will last approximately 60 minutes. Both will take place on Zoom. Closed captioning will be available at all meetings. If you have access needs you need Sangha Is All to accommodate, please briefly describe the accommodations you need to enable your comfortable participation in the Information Session Registration or the Modern Abolition Fall Session-Harvesting Our Roots Application.
Dana
This Sanskrit word means “donation,” and it represents a concept of mutual generosity, support, and giving. Twenty-five centuries ago, Shakyamuni Buddha and his community survived and thrived on dana. Shakyamuni and his followers offered wisdom and support to the individuals and communities they visited without what we today call a paywall. In appreciation of Shakyamuni’s gifts of wisdom and insight, individuals offered appreciation in the form and amount they were capable of. The modern world continue to benefit from Buddhism’s teachings; thus, we can quite clearly see that the mutual support of dana has powerful capabilities. Sangha Is All, with a core mission of making its offerings accessible to all who wish to consume them regardless of their economic resources, does not charge fees or tuition for participation. Everything Sangha Is All offers is its dana to you. The most significant dana you can offer to Sangha Is All is your committed and active participation, and that is the only dana Sangha Is All will request of you.
We live in a capitalist society and Sangha Is All believes that, because of this, economics should not be invisibilized. As a disabled person, Laura recognizes that, in the past, she has received dana from US taxpayers in the form of Social Security and Medicare disability payments, just as she has provided this same form of dana to others during her working years. She now receives the dana of Social Security and Medicare payments by virtue of age. Again, your committed and active participation is the only dana Sangha Is All will request of you. Some may wish and have the capacity to offer other forms of dana. Individuals who wish to offer dana in the form of service to Sangha Is All can email laura@SanghaIsAll.org to open this discussion. Information Session
